Why LipoSelection®?
LipoSelection® by VASER® is an advanced approach to body contouring that is considered less invasive than conventional liposuction. Also known as ultrasonic liposuction, this advanced technology works by dissolving and removing fat cells throughout the body with the use of gentle ultrasound. Unlike traditional liposuction, LipoSelection® allows for more precision in specifically targeting your body fat. It minimizes the impact and interruption to other nearby body tissues, which significantly minimizes your recovery period.
The level of precision and safety LipoSelection® provides allows surgeons to sculpt and shape delicate areas of the body, such as the arms, chin, neck, and inner thighs. VASER® liposuction can remove fat from any area treatable with traditional liposuction techniques: abdomen, thighs, buttocks, knees, hips, back, arms, male breasts, love handles, chin, and neck areas. Because LipoSelection® does not harm the tissues surrounding the treated area, patients experience only minimal bruising.
Am I a good candidate?
If you are bothered by excess fat deposits - located anywhere on your body - that don’t respond to diet or exercise, LipoSelection® may be right for you.
Ideal candidates for LipoSelection® are:
- Adults within 30% of their ideal weight who have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone
- Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing
- Non-smokers
- Individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for body contouring
- Individuals looking for an alternative to traditional liposuction
Surgical Procedure
LipoSelection® by VASER® uses gentle ultrasonic waves to dissolve select areas of fat pockets without disturbing or putting stress on nearby nerves and collagen tissues. This is possible as the ultrasound is able to differentiate fatty tissue from other important body tissue (such as blood vessels, connective tissue and nerves) that should be left largely undisturbed.
First, the area to be reshaped is refilled with a special saline solution that helps numb the site and shrink the blood vessel (to minimize blood loss and reduce bruising). This solution wets and fills the area to be treated, making it easier to break up fatty tissue with the VASER System’s sound energy. Then a small probe transmits sound energy (similar to that used for cataract removal from the eye) that fragments fatty tissue on contact, while leaving other important tissue relatively intact. Finally, the liquefied fat is removed through a gentle suction process designed to minimize damage to surrounding tissues. Not only does the procedure involve much less pain and bruising than traditional procedures, the results are astonishingly smooth, shapely and natural looking.
Recovery
This varies with the extensiveness of the procedure—the amount of fat removed, the number of sites treated, and so on. Many patients report that they see results immediately after the procedure with the final result at around 3 to 6 months. It is important that you establish realistic expectations through discussion with your surgeon.
Risks & Complications
The risks of VASER® LipoSelection® are very similar to the liposuction risks associated with any other method. However, because LipoSelection® minimizes damage to other body tissues, patients typically experience less pain and fewer side effects than with other forms of liposuction. Serious liposuction complications are quite rare. Fat clots or blood clots may form, and there is a chance these will migrate to the lungs and cause serious illness. The fluid loss that results from liposuction will be anticipated by a qualified doctor, as it can cause low blood pressure, friction burns, or fluid buildup. The LipoSelection® probe’s ultrasound energy may injure the skin or deeper tissues, although in most cases the benefits of the ultrasound system make it safer than traditional liposuction. If a surgeon inexperienced with the LipoSelection® procedure applies too much fluid, the wetting solution may collect in the lungs. If there is too much lidocaine in the liposuction solution, lidocaine toxicity may develop. Dr Heng, one of our surgeons, is one of the few properly trained and qualified surgeons to perform this procedure in Malaysia.
